iTromsø AI Datajournalism Lab
Rune Ytreberg is Data Editor at iTromsø’s data lab, which applies Artificial Intelligence to strengthen journalism and develop new tools and services for 70 local newspapers in Polaris Media. He is currently pursuing a PhD in applied AI in journalism and is affiliated with OsloMet University’s Center for Artificial Intelligence in Journalism. Rune serves on the steering committee for AI in Polaris Media and is a sought-after lecturer and workshop leader on AI for journalists.
Rune worked as an investigative journalist for ten years at NRK Brennpunkt and five years at Dagens Næringsliv. He has received the SKUP Award, multiple DataSKUP awards, and several other honors for investigative and data-driven journalism and innovations. In 2024, he was named “Digital Innovator of the Year” for AI-driven media innovation by NONA (Norwegian Online News Association).
He is living in Tromsø in northern Norway with his wife, and has four children.
